The trip back to Delhi was nothing spectacular. Surprisingly, and quite opposite to all comments I had heard, I was never late anywhere. Transportation didn’t fail me as much as I expected. Buses were on time, Trains were on time, sometimes even early… I was heading back to Delhi to catch a plane home. Part of me was anxious to get home, back to my comfort zone along with all the illusion of security and abundance, the 9 to 5 job, steady lifestyle etc… but a bigger part of me was sad to leave this wonderful place.

Amidst all the chaos and the dirt, I was able to see what India was all about. Although a couple of weeks were not nearly enough to see a fraction of what’s there, I am glad that I was able to break the ice and see the wonders of the colorful India. The Pushkar temples faded away in the rising sun, merchants back at their businesses, and the very melodic music and chants randomly crossing my path, but most importantly, the ideology, the belief and the daily actions, showing that tomorrow is already taken care of. “No Problem”. It doesn’t really matter what another day may bring but the right now, this moment, that was important. A big smile, eager to help, not worried about the next hour, the next day, the next year, “As you wish” is the answer to “how much?” and then showing mudras and prayers of thanks for the 20 rupee tip received, then vanish into the crowd.

You may think that this attitude is naive and borderline ridiculous, and certainly lacks any insight for the future, – what is the future anyway? where do you think you are going, globally speaking. put aside your American dream, your house, car, dog and picket fence…and try to answer the question of what’s next? does it make you scared? are you worried and stressed out about these things that you wish to own but you are unsure about… then for a moment, let go of that and see what I saw there, I saw that ignorance is bliss. Not having can do no harm. Not knowing what it’s like to live with enough space and running water, hot or cold, a blanket at night… can’t hurt you if you don’t know about it. We only dread what we miss. Attachment to things seem dangerous, even deadly. Victims or pawns they may be, then so are we, eager to escape one reality to end up in another. We are prisoners of objects, and our spiritual is blocked. Being there too long might fade the magic, but one thing is for sure, there is an essence of mind flow and spiritual freedom about India. I find it almost amusing to admit, but I am going to miss it.

That’s where I am going next.

My trip starts on November 24, 2006. The weather should be pleasant at this time of the year in Delhi. At this point, I am trying my best to be ready for this journey to the roots. Packing seems too easy, I must be forgetting something crucial, something I’ll probably find out i forgot when I’m too far to come back for it.

Trying to carefully take advice from travelers guides such as lonelyplanet.com or routard.com, I got myself some bug spray, hand sanitizers, flash light etc… aside from my usual load of camera equipment, I should be ready. I think. No matter what though, even after all the reading and research on the internet, in books, it doesn’t seem quite enough to know all about India. I’m certain that there is no such thing as “India at a glance”. We shall see what this land beyond any imagination can bring.

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, are the primary cities in my itinerary. I would also like to visit Varanasi (formerly known as Benarès)at dawn, visit the Ganges Ghats (river banks) and Lucknow, at the peak of festivities (between November 25 and December 5), but the circumstances will determine whether i get to do all i want or not.

I Booked some hostels through hihostels.com, by far the best deal and easy booking that i’ve found, looking around – a $35 CAD. Membership can get you a room for $2 -$7 for instance in New Delhi.

My experience with the India Rail website has convinced me that it is probably wiser and easier on the brain to book the trains once I get there.
